Selecting user accounts for migration

Active and inactive accounts

VaultMe for Admins can only migrate active accounts that have valid licenses.

To be able to migrate archived accounts, you'll need to reactivate them. It is not possible for VaultMe for Admins to connect to a mailbox that does not have a license and a password, since neither the OAuth nor the IMAP protocol would allow this.

Before proceeding with the migration setup, create a full list of all active and inactive accounts in the source and decide which user accounts must be transferred to the destination and which are no longer required. Note that although you may no longer use some old mailboxes, you may need to retain them for future reference or for legal purposes.

Additionally, reviewing the contents of smaller accounts in your organization would be helpful. If a small account contains little to no content, not migrating it may reduce costs and migration time.

Shared mailboxes and aliases

VaultMe for Admins can migrate shared mailboxes, but it can only connect to a shared mailbox that:

  • Has a valid login identity (username + password or OAuth token), and
  • Is licensed.

For this reason, to be able to migrate a shared mailbox, you need to assign a password and purchase a license for it.

Shared mailboxes can only be archived in the destination. They will not function as a collaborative space in the destination.

Aliases are not standalone accounts and, therefore, cannot be added to the migration plan as regular users. If a user has alias addresses in the source, those aliases will need to be recreated manually in the destination after the migration is complete.
